How to Advertise on Google AdWords...

How to start a Google AdWords advertising account

Here's how to sign up:

Go to www.google.com and look towards the bottom of the page. You will see a link which says "Advertising Programs" (this will be different to you if you are using Mozilla Firefox, in which case you should just click on the link below). Once you click on that link you will be taken to the following page:

http://www.google.com/ads/

Once there you should click on the link which says Google AdWords.

You will then be taken to a page which looks like the following picture. I would recommend book marking this page or add it to your favorites because you will visit it often. Click on the button titled "Start now" to sign up for your AdWords account.

After clicking "Start now", you will be taken to a couple of pages which will ask you how you want to set up your advertising group(s) with Google. For now, we will just set up a basic campaign, meaning that you are going to edit this campaign to get it as profitable as possible later.

Why are you creating a basic campaign?
I am going to go over in extreme detail how to set up a perfect campaign later in this guide, and as for now I don't want you to worry about advertising, I just want you to have a Google Account.

After you hit the "Start now" button, you will be taken to a page where it asks you what type of AdWords account you want to create. Select the "Standard Edition" and click on the "Continue" button.

After you hit the "Continue" button you will see a selection where it asks you to Target Customers By Language, choose which language you wish to advertise in. This should be the language of the country you are going to advertise in.

In the Target Customers By Location selection you will select where you want to advertise. There are three sections; you should choose the Countries and Territories selection.

Further Dummy Account Info

Next you will be prompted to choose the individual countries to advertise in. I recommend choosing all the countries that speak English.

When you hit the "Continue" button you will be asked to make the advertisement for the website you are promoting. Again, you can edit this later so just make a quick advertisement or copy the example below.

Headline: "7 of These Ads Are Scams"
Description line 1: "Find out which products are scams"
Description line 2: "and which products are 100% safe"
Display URL: www.ReviewSolution.com
Destination URL: the address of your review site (I showed you how to get this earlier in this guide)

Then you will be prompted to enter keywords, you can get the keywords you can use from the review guide, so for now enter one keyword which is related to your website and hit continue.

On the next page you will be asked to choose which currency you want Google to use to bill you. Select the appropriate currency, because you cannot edit this later. Then you will see a section where it asks you What is the most you would like to spend, on average, per day? This is your Max Daily Budget, set this to $10.00 and go to the next section. The next section is What is the maximum you are willing to pay each time someone clicks on your ad? This is your Maximum Cost Per Click. Enter $0.05 here and click on the "Continue" button on the bottom of the page. Don't worry, just because you enter in a max budget of $10 per day doesn't mean that you are going to spend that much.

Now hit the continue button and you will see a page which shows you all of your current settings to your Advertisement Group. Read through them and click on the "Continue to Sign Up" button at the bottom of the page.

The next page will ask you if you already have a Google Account. If you do, simply enter your email address and password and click on the button titled "Create AdWords Account". If you don't have a Google Account look for a link on the page which says "Create a new Google Account to be your login to AdWords". This will create a new Google Account for you.

If you don't already have a Google account it will ask you to enter your email address and a password, make sure this information is correct because Google will send you an email right after you create your account. After you enter this information, click on the "Create AdWords Account" button.

Google will now send you an email to the email address you specified which will contain a link that you will need to go to in order to activate your account. Simply click on the URL in your email from Google.

After you go to that URL you can log into Google AdWords using your email address as your User name.

Billing Information

Once you are in your account, you will need to specify a credit card for Google to use in order to bill you. Here's how to do this.

  1. Click on the "My Account" tab located near the top of the Google Account webpage.
  2. Once you are there, you will notice the following near the top of the page in your Google Account.

Click on the "Billing Preferences" link near the top of the page. This will take you to the appropriate location where you need to enter your credit card information.

You will be charged a $5.00 activation fee, but don't worry this is not a lot at all, most other search engines charge you much more than this. After you enter your credit card and personal information your account will be activated.

Now that you have an account set up, you are ready to learn how to create a perfect Campaign so you can begin making money online. But first you will need to learn how to navigate your Google AdWords Account.

Creating A New Campaign & AdGroup

Setting up a new campaign with Google is fairly easy and your advertisement will literally go live within 5-10 minutes after you complete it. This is nearly a day faster than most of the other search engines, although Yahoo is catching up.

The fist thing you'll need to do is click on the link titled "Keyword-Targeted" on your main AdWords campaign management page.

Setting Up Basic Information for your Campaign & AdGroup

You will now be taken to a new page where it will ask you to name your campaign and adgroup. Even though your campaign and adgroup name doesn't affect your account performance at all, you will still want to name them appropriately to help organize your account. So if you were advertising for a dog training product, I would name the campaign "Review Website" and I would name the AdGroup "Dog Training". Normally you create one campaign for each different website you advertise.

When you finish naming your campaign and adgroup, you should select what language you want your ads to be displayed in. I recommend you choose the main language that the people speak in the countries you plan to advertise in.

After you select your language you should select where you want your ads to be displayed. You can either choose "Countries or territories" do display your ads to specific countries (I recommend choosing this item), you can choose "Regions or cities" to display your ads to specific cities, or you can customize it which will display your advertisements within a parameter of a location you specify.

When you finish click on the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page.

Choosing Your Advertising Locations

The next page will ask you where you want to advertise. If you chose the "Countries and Territories" option you will see a list of countries that you can choose to advertise in. I do not recommend that you choose to advertise in all countries. Doing so will drastically lower your accounts performance. Instead, try to target all of the countries that speak the language you're advertising in. Remember that if the website you're advertising is only available to a certain country, then you should only advertise to that country.

When you are finished click on the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page.

Writing Your Text Advertisement

You will now be taken to a page which prompts you to create a text advertisement for your AdGroup. You can create several different text advertisements for your AdGroup, which I recommend you do.

You will want your text advertisements to be catchy, accurate, and attention getting. I recommend using the text ads ReviewSolution has supplied. To access these text ads go to the page you want to advertise and click on the link titled "How to Advertise this Page" located at the bottom of the page.

If you decide to write your own text advertisements, I recommend basing your text advertisements after the text ads ReviewSolution supplies.

The Title should draw the users attention towards your text advertisement. Then the description should convince the user to click on your text advertisement to go to your review site.

Getting Keywords

In case you don't know what a keyword is, a keyword is basically a search term that someone enters into a search engine to find related webpages. So if you search online for "dog food" the word "dog food" is your keyword.

When you're prompted to enter keywords for your advertisement, I recommend you use the keywords that ReviewSolution has supplied for the review. You can see these keywords by going to the review page you want to advertise and clicking on the "How to Advertise this Page" link located at the bottom of the review page.

If you don't want to use the keyword list that ReviewSolution has supplied, you can always create your own keyword list by using the techniques below:

  1. Go to Google's Keyword tool by visiting the following website: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
  2. Click on the tab titled "Site-Related Keywords"
  3. Where it says "Enter a webpage URL…" enter the URL of the webpage you want to send your visitors to (remember I mentioned this earlier, this should also be your destination URL used in your test ad)
  4. Then click on the "Get Keywords" button.

Google will now display a large list of keywords relevant to the review site address you've entered. Next to each keyword you will see a link titled "Add". Click on this link to add that keyword to the keyword list you want to use (your keyword list will appear on the right side of the page). Go through the list and add all the keywords that you feel are relevant to the review website.

Once you've selected all the keywords you feel are relevant to your keyword list look towards the right side of the page just under the last keyword in the keyword list that you've added keywords to. You should see something that says "Download These Keywords". When you see this, click on the link titled "text" to download these keywords in the form of a text file to your computer.

Now you have your keyword list for this review created. There's just one thing left for you to do to make sure you receive as much traffic as possible and that is to tell Google to display your keywords for as many searches as possible.

Google has three different keyword types (called match types), and they are Broad, Phrase, and Exact. Broad match keywords receive the most traffic, but it takes more traffic to get a sale. Phrase match keywords generate less traffic that broad, but they require less traffic to get a sale. Exact match keywords generate the least amount of traffic, but they also have the highest sales rates (which means they require very little web traffic to get a sale).

If you use each one of these match types separately, you will not achieve great results. But if you use them all together you will have very good results since your ads will be displayed consistently for all search types.

So to apply these match types to all your keywords do the following:

  1. Go to http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/adwords-wrapper.html
  2. Open your keyword list and Copy all the keywords (Ctrl+C)
  3. Paste (Ctrl+V) the keywords into the text box on the webpage above.
  4. Click the button titled "Wrap AdWords".
  5. You will be taken to a new page with several different text boxes. Look for the text box titled "Broad, "Phrase", & [Exact] Match". Copy (Ctrl+C) the keywords from that box (these keywords will look different, some will have "quotations" around them and others will have [brackets] around them, this is the way it's supposed to be).
  6. Paste (Ctrl+V) the keywords from that box into your keyword list you downloaded from Google (you can overwrite the keywords that were there before).

Now you should be completely done creating your keyword list. Now go back to your AdWords account and add the keywords into the section where Google tells you to enter keywords for your new Campaign/AdGroup.

Getting a very large and relevant keyword list is very important to having a successful account with Google. The more keywords you have the higher the chances are that you will find a niche or basically a search phrase that is searched a lot but also has very few competitors.

Now click on the continue button in your campaign after you've entered your keywords.

Setting Your Keyword Costs

I recommend setting all of your keywords at $0.05 per click to begin with. Then you should gradually raise your keywords to get higher positions (a first page position is what you want, this is ranks 1.0 – 8.0). Contrary to what most other people say or do, you do not need to bid $0.30 or $0.50 per click for keywords. That is ridiculous. The most I pay for any of my keywords is $0.20 per click.

You should now create a new Google AdWords account for each keyword list I have supplied.

How to beat the "Google Slap"…(Inactive for Search)

The way you beat the Google Slap is to organize your account with your website. If Google looks at your account and sees that your advertising looks more like gibberish than a work of mathematical art, then you're going to get penalized. You see, Google uses computers and robots to determine whether or not your account is relevant or not. If your account setup is sloppy then Google will tell you that your keywords are irrelevant and will penalize you by requiring you to raise your bids to $10.00 per click. But if your account is very organized then you will be rewarded with very low bids for your clicks.

Here's what you need to do:

Make sure you organize your keywords. By this I mean group your similar keywords together and put each group of keywords into its own adgroup. This way Google will look at all of your keywords in your adgroup and think "These keywords are all related to each other", this will boost your contextual advertising.

Next Google will look at your text advertisement in each AdGroup and will compare it to each keyword within that AdGroup. If your text advertisement is related to your keywords then you will be rewarded by Google again. This is why we grouped similar keywords together and put the keywords into their own adgroup.

Now come the tricky part. You will need to link your keywords to your text ad, your text ad to your website, and your website to your keywords. I call this the Google triangle. What this does is tell Google that you are the ideal advertiser. Instead of having random keywords with the same text advertisement you have specific keywords pointing to a specific text advertisement that goes to a specific website. To do this try to include the same keyword in your text ad and your website. Like if your keyword is "make money", include the phrase "make money" in your text advertisement, and also make sure the phrase "make money" is in your website text.

If you do all these things then Google will be appreciative and will reward you with much lower bids, higher quality scores, and better rankings.
